The time-honored tradition of celebrating St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner. Lucky for you, there are great local breweries in Chapel Hill and Carrboro where you can enjoy a pint or two. Deck yourself out in green and head over to these local watering holes to raise a glass to Irish culture.
Craftboro
Craftboro Brewing Depot is a welcoming brewery and bottle shop tucked away in the corner of Two Hills Drive in Carrboro. The Craftboro team is serious about the art of brewing and encourages you start up a conversation with one of their brewers to learn more about their process. Every third Saturday you can even take a tour of the brewery and sample a tasting flight of their beers. In the taproom you’ll find traditional pours of golden ales and IPAs, as well as a rotation of seasonal brews like their Maiden of Milk Imperial Raspberry Chocolate Milk Stout. Vecino
Vecino Brewing Company describes itself as “a brewery and restaurant built by neighbors, for neighbors.” As a popular location with ample space that hosts local musicians every week, the Vecino team has stayed true to its community focus since opening its doors in 2018. Patrons looking for traditional flavors will be pleased with Vecino’s lineup, primarily comprised of IPAs and wheat ales. To complement their tasty brews, Vecino also offers a full menu of small plates, sandwiches and a kids’ menu.
Steel String

A brewery whose guiding principles seem to be boldness and bravery, Steel String will take the ingredients it grows on its own farm and go where few brewers dare to go. If you’re in the mood for an herbal saison or if you’ve wondered what an Atlantic Beach Pie beer tastes like, take a trip to Steel String and a sip of the wild side.
Dingo Dog
A visit to Dingo Dog Brewing Company in Carrboro could be a chance to make a difference this St. Patrick’s Day. Dingo Dog grows ingredients on its own farm with a zero-waste philosophy and donates all its profits to no-kill animal rescue organizations in North Carolina. On top of that, you get to enjoy some great brews in a dog-friendly setting! The Baxter’s White Ale is a perfectly spiced session beer, and the Milo and Filo is a delicious malty double IPA.
Top of the Hill
Boasting a celebrated menu and iconic location, Top of the Hill’s beers have been a town staple since 1996. In that time, it has developed 80 different beers including their flagship Old Well White, which tastes amazing with an orange slice, and the Kenan Lager, which is great to sip on outside while enjoying a Carolina sunset. Carolina Brewery
The oldest craft brewery in the Triangle, Carolina Brewery opened its doors on Franklin Street in 1995 before “craft beer” was a widely popularized term. Carolina Brewery continues to deliver its classic benchmark brews like the light and vibrant Sky Blue Kolsch, or the bold yet smooth Copperline Amber.
