“Hello, Glen Lennox!” with Rick Smith
From astronaut sightings at the bowling alley to NCAA championship game shenanigans, Rick Smith has seen it all in Chapel Hill.
In the 1960s he briefly worked for Glen Lennox as a landscaper. Shortly thereafter he completed a cadet program for the Chapel Hill Police Department and entered local law enforcement in 1967. What was intended to be a role in dispatch and communications eventually evolved into ride alongs with officers and more intense police work. Later he completed a fingerprinting course with the FBI at Quantico and became a detective who assisted on crime scenes.
Already familiar with Glen Lennox from his pre-law enforcement career stint, he became a resident in the community in the 1970s. The location and convenient bus access was a big appeal, as well as the peaceful environment surrounded by trees and wildlife. Hear Rick stroll down memory lane in the latest episode of “Hello, Glen Lennox!”
