Dive Into Pool Season at One of Chapel Hill’s Aquatic Facilities
During a North Carolina summer, a lot of time is dedicated to beating the heat. And what better way to stay cool this season than at the pool? Whether you’re looking for a spot to swim laps, or simply a place to float, Chapel Hill has facilities for every swimmer.

If you are not a member at a local pool, have no fear. There are three aquatic facilities operated by the Town of Chapel Hill to give everyone a chance to splash around. There are four swim pass options for these locations, with prices varying between residents and nonresidents.
The Homestead Aquatic Center and Chapel Hill Community Center both operate indoor pools, complete with lap lanes, ramp access and locker rooms. In addition to lanes, the Homestead Aquatic Center boasts a recreation warm water pool, and educational and recreational programs.
Looking to get a tan? Check out the Town of Chapel Hill’s A.D. Clark Outdoor Pool. This facility includes four lap lanes, accessibility and lockers, as well as a playground next door.
Membership-Based
For consistent pool-goers, a membership to a private facility may be the best option for the summer. Complete with diving boards, slides and more, check out a membership at one of the following pools.
Exchange Pool, “run by members for members,” is a family-friendly paradise with everything from a wading kiddie pool to a water slide, and even a snack bar to grab a cold treat. This facility offers swim lessons, family social events and a summer swim team.
With several membership options, patrons at Ridgewood Club of Chapel Hill can choose an experience that’s best for them. This facility glistens with old-school charm and offers everyone a classic summer experience. Complete with swim lessons, summer swim team and family events, what’s not to love?
Located in the Heritage Hills subdivision, the Heritage Hills Recreation Club (HHRC) offers swimming and tennis to its members. HHRC prides itself for its rare feature: a high-diving board! Beyond this high-flying fun, the facility has swim lessons, summer swim team, tennis camps and clinics to keep you active.
You can’t forget about the classic pool option for a summer of play: the YMCA. The Meadowmont location includes a beach-like sloped entry, mushroom spray fountain and commercial water slide. Get ready for a local water park experience!
Affiliation-Based
Calling all UNC-Chapel Hill and UNC Health employees and alumni! If you are looking for a membership at a local aquatic facility, Chapel Hill has the option for you.
The Farm, run by the UNC Faculty-Staff Recreation Association, offers tennis, pickleball, fitness and of course swimming facilities for members. The blood at this facility runs as Carolina blue as the water, where you can participate in summer swim team, swim laps, use the water slide or cannonball off one of the diving boards.
For UNC-CH students, employees and families, Campus Recreation memberships are available. Members have access to the indoor Bowman Gray Memorial Pool and Kessing Outdoor Pool for leisure, but everyone in the community can tap into the wealth of safety courses and swim lessons offered there.
