Experience Coffee, Cocktails and Culinary Delights at Coco
Exquisitely designed and irresistibly inviting, Coco captivates your senses from the moment you walk through the door. The bistro’s bright, airy atmosphere and impeccable décor coupled with its unique menu are just two of the many reasons to check out Chapel Hill’s newest gem.
You’ll find Coco conveniently located on the ground floor of The Gwendolyn in the Glen Lennox community. The space’s clean lines, modern light fixtures, lush plants, cozy chairs and stylish tile on the bar’s façade make you feel like you’ve stepped onto the pages of a posh design magazine. Coco’s owner, Tamara Lacky, poured over every detail to create a space that is as beautiful as it is functional for guests to enjoy morning, day and night.
“Over many discussions with the Grubb Properties team, the idea for Coco evolved from a 200-square-foot coffee bar into a full-service restaurant unlike anything else in the Triangle,” noted Tamara. “We built off our popular espresso and coffee menu from my original shop, Coco Bean, and expanded into serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, all of which are plant-based. You can also order from our full bar serving craft cocktails, wine and beer, as well as Zero-Proof beverages with no alcohol.”
Both Tamara and Grubb Properties shared a vision to create a place centered around the community that would bring people together. That vision shaped Coco’s fluid indoor-outdoor layout, which includes a NanaWall (a Folding Glass Wall system) of windows that fully open onto Coco’s wrap-around patio seating overlooking the nearby pocket park.
Coco will use the park to host community events, like pet adoptions, live music, outdoor movies and more. The space also features a private room that can be reserved starting in early 2022 for parties, corporate events, wedding or baby showers, birthdays, etc., with capacity to accommodate 18 for cocktails and 12 for a sit-down meal. For larger events, Coco’s entire space is also available to rent.
“Eat Local. Think Global.” is the guiding principle behind Coco’s food philosophy. The entire menu is plant-based and Tamara has scoured the region to find the best products to offer. On the espresso bar menu, you can choose from seven types of milk, including oat, soy and macadamia. In addition to making baked goods and pastries in-house daily, Coco is excited to support other local businesses with incredible vegan offerings, including Flip Side Donuts, Dee’s Kitchen, Deli Edison and Taylor’s Street Sweets.
Tamara personally designed the menu, featuring everything from breakfast burritos and sandwiches to a mushroom brie burger. For little ones, the menu includes healthy twists on kids’ favorites, like chicken nuggets, peanut butter and jelly, and even a BLT.
While dining in Coco is part of the carefully curated experience, you can also get food and drinks to go. Takeout and delivery are available through Toast Tab on the Coco website, Door Dash and Grub Hub, or you can pick up your order curbside from the designated parking spaces in front.
In the future, keep your eyes peeled for wine and coffee flight tastings, an expanded menu and a slew of fun community events. Plan your visit today — Coco is located at 101 Glen Lennox Dr. just off Fordham Boulevard, and parking is available in front of the building or in the parking garage next door.
