Discover Hidden Talents with These Quarantine Challenges
During our time at home, we’ve all been looking for new ways to connect with friends and pass the time. Thanks to social media, human ingenuity is alive and well in the form of quarantine challenges. From the outrageous to dexterous, there’s a feat to attempt no matter your skill level. The only question is—which challenge are you up for?
Show Us What You Got
Let’s start with a softball. Just because we’re not hitting the town doesn’t mean we can’t look the part. Enter The Pillow Challenge. Equal parts fabulous and hilarious, slip into your finest pillow and complete the look with your choice of accessories. Strike a pose and share that selfie with #PillowChallenge, because the internet loves a good laugh.
Toilet paper has been catching a lot of buzz in recent weeks. While you might think the Toilet Paper Challenge involves finding a store that has rolls in stock, professional soccer players have put their own spin on it. Using a roll of toilet paper and only your legs, try to see how long you can bounce it off your feet and knees to keep it from hitting the ground, like a hacky sack.
You can even create a modified toilet paper challenge for your four-legged friend. Set out a row of toilet paper so it forms a barrier across a hallway. Call your dog, and he or she will have to jump over the toilet paper to get to you. Add one row at a time, building up a wall to increase the degree of difficulty and see just how high your pup can soar.
Let’s Get Moving
Staying active while we’re home is good for maintaining our health and boosting our moods. If you’re particularly athletic and agile, check out the Handstand Challenge. Celebs have dared their famous pals to put on a t-shirt while in a handstand against a wall. Before you try this at home, be sure to move any furniture or objects out of the way, just in case you’re not as smooth as Lolo Jones.
However, the queen of any challenge involving a handstand goes to four-time Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles. In an epic feat of balance and coordination, this super athlete manages to slip off her sweatpants while holding a handstand—and she didn’t use a wall.
But getting back to things us mere mortals can actually do, the Pushup Challenge might be right up your alley. Video yourself doing 10 pushups and tag 10 friends to complete the challenge on Instagram with #PushUpChallenge. If 10 isn’t hard enough, up the ante by clapping between pushups, pressing with just one arm or attempting these insane pushup variations. One positive of our time at home is that it’s an opportunity to create new healthy habits. Consider challenging yourself to knock out 10 pushups every day or 100 sit-ups, and see how long you can keep your streak going.
Rock It on TikTok
TikTok, an app that is wildly popular with Gen Z for posting short videos of dance moves and lip-synching, is providing families with endless hours of fun. You can imitate a music video, put your own spin on a classic dance, or show off your moves—just choose the TikTok Dance Challenge that gets you grooving.
If you’re not in the mood to bust a move, the Flip the Switch Challenge can still entertain your friends and followers. Set to Drake’s 2018 hit, “Nonstop,” people listen to the song and when he sings the lyrics “I just flip the switch” the room’s lights go out. The lights quickly come back on, yet everyone in the frame has switched places—outfits and all! While very simplistic in the execution, the results are oddly enjoyable to watch. For inspiration to make your own clip, check out some of the best Flip the Switch videos.
Stay Busy All Weekend
Next time we have a rainy weekend, here’s a task that’ll keep you occupied all day. Back in 2017, The Floor is Lava challenge swept the internet, but pro athletes are bringing it back with their own brand of crazy coordination.
If you don’t want to risk a hospital visit, instead you could try making your own Rube Goldberg machine at home. Because when life gives us lemons, it’s a lot of fun to make lemonade.
