Doing Good in the Neighborhood
It was a busy Spring at Glen Lennox. If you’ve passed by on 15-501 you’ve likely noticed foundations and stairwells rising out of the North Carolina clay, evidence of progress as we update our venerable Chapel Hill neighborhood.
But it’s not all work and no play. Grubb Properties, which has owned and managed Glen Lennox since 1986, signed on as co-sponsor of three important (and fun) local events which benefit the greater community…and give us a chance to get out of the office.
The first was the 11th annual Birdies, Barbeque and Bluegrass fundraiser for SECU Family House at UNC Hospital. This free-wheeling golf, food and music event was held at Chapel Hill Country Club on April 26. Our sponsorship will fund a Family House room for 26 nights, helping provide safe, affordable temporary lodging, meals and support programs for patients and their loved ones who travel to UNC Hospitals for treatment of serious illnesses or life-saving procedures. Since 2008 SECU Family House has served more than 23,000 families from all 100 North Carolina counties, 44 other states and seven foreign countries.
Glen Lennox also supported Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build event in early May at Crescent Magnolia in Hillsborough. The Women Build program recruits, educates and inspires women to build, fundraise, and advocate for stable and affordable housing. This year (2019) Grubb Properties is sponsoring and building a Habitat house in Greenville, SC. In 2018, Grubb Properties sponsored and built a home for a deserving family in Winston-Salem, N.C.
In our third co-sponsorship, Team Glen Lennox joined the 2019 Community Bocce Derby, an annual gathering where local business leaders and Chamber members enjoy mint juleps and BBQ, compete at bocce and talk all things Chapel Hill. TOPO distillery served up refreshing beverages, and chow was by Vimala’s Curry Blossom Café, not their signature Indian cuisine but good ol’ made-in-the-USA barbecue. Forty-five teams competed, bearing such colorful names as Holyrollers and Deboccery, as 70+ guests cheered a game that’s been around since the days of the Roman empire. Attire was Spring-appropriate, with pastel colors, stylish hats and sundresses in abundance. Claiming the victor’s trophy were the Hardballers, led by Daniel Eller and Jamie Kropp of Eller Capital Partners.
“Glen Lennox has been an integral part of Chapel Hill for almost 70 years,” said Tim Jezisek, vice president of development at Grubb Properties. “We’re proud to support causes that have a positive impact on the town and our broader society.”
